Building With The Valley, Not Against It
Solar power, greywater reuse, and a kitchen that buys from the village first — sustainability at Ochre is mostly a matter of not fighting a difficult environment.
About Ochre
Spiti's climate makes sustainability a practical necessity rather than a marketing choice — short growing seasons, limited water, and a fragile high-altitude ecosystem mean waste is expensive in every sense. Ochre runs on a solar-assisted power system, reuses greywater for its small kitchen garden, and minimises single-use plastic across the property.
Just as importantly, we employ a majority-local team and buy food, fuel, and building materials from within the valley wherever possible, so that a guest's stay puts money directly back into the community around Ochre.
