Life at Altitude
Spend an afternoon in a Spitian home, share butter tea with a farming family, and see how a community has adapted to one of the world's harshest inhabited landscapes.
At A Glance
Spitian villages are built around a rhythm shaped by short summers and long winters — barley and pea harvests, animal husbandry, and communal labour on irrigation channels dug centuries ago. Many families still winter their livestock on the ground floor of the house, using the animals' warmth to heat the rooms above.
Ochre arranges informal village visits with families in Shego and nearby hamlets: a shared pot of butter tea, a look at a working kitchen, and an honest conversation about a way of life that's changing fast as roads and mobile networks arrive.
